Now that one of you popped the question, and the other said yes, wedding planning will soon be in full swing. But
before you get lost in the details of it all, I encourage all couples to take a moment, embrace the sweet engagement
stage, and spend some time relishing your relationship. One of the best ways to do that—and capture the beauty
of it—is by doing an engagement session.
Engagement sessions are a great way to get to know each other! They have a more laid back, casual feel without pressure.
PLANNING YOUR SESSION
ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER IN ROCHESTER NY
1. CHOOSE YOUR LOCATION
Choose a location that is meaningful for you: your favorite restaurant as a couple, the park you take walks in together to unwind, or even your home for a lifestyle shoot. Make it personalized and special—even bring your dog for a few images. The photos should represent you as a couple.
2. REMEMBER WHY YOU'RE THERE
An engagement session is not just about showing off your bling. It's a great opportunity to get real photos showcasing small moments you share with each other. So, let’s find an environment that brings you close to portray the love and laughter that you share on the daily. Do you feel uncomfortable in front of the camera? That's normal! Our engagement photographers in Rochester NY will help you along, and casual engagement shoots are great practice for bridals!
3. GO WITH THE FLOW
What if it rains? What if the sun isn’t shining just perfectly? Leave those worries to me. I watch the hourly weather intensely. If it looks like it's definitely going to pour we can reschedule. But if you're up for it, let's grab some umbrellas and use it to our advantage! I promise I won’t leave you hanging.
4. TIMING
With my busiest times between May and November, as soon as you know when, let's get you on my calendar!
The best time of day to do your engagement session is about 1-1.5 hours before sunset.
5. COMPLEMENT & COORDINATE BUT DON'T GET TOO MATCHY!
I'm often asked for clothing ideas, so I thought I'd include a bit of information on the topic.
*Find a color palette that you love and choose outfits that complement each other without looking too matchy-matchy. You can choose to do neutrals with a few pops of color or a softer palette that has different ranges in tone of the same shades.
*Multiple patterns can look busy, and this way they won't be competing with one another.
*Add dimension and interest by mixing up the texture of the clothing material and accents.
*Keep our backdrop in mind when choosing your clothing. If we are on a beach, aim to dress in clothes that are light and flowing. If we are surrounded by fall leaves, layering in great textures is a great option.
*Most importantly, be sure to wear clothes you feel comfortable in. Your confidence will really shine through in your photos!
Try to AVOID: Large logos, neon colors and be aware of any tan lines.
Arrange your outfits on a large bed or on the floor, and then send me photos of your favorite combinations. We can work together to ensure we find the perfect combination!
